First Texas Olive Oil Company

First Texas Olive Oil Co. is located on The Bella Vista Ranch in the Texas Hill Country town of Wimberley. Each Fall we harvest and mill our estate-grown olives on a modern Italian olive press to create the highest quality oil.
The Bella Vista Ranch, designed as a traditional Italian family farm, is home to First Texas Olive Oil Co. and Bella Vista Cellars. Home to over 1,200 olive trees, it features the first commercially producing olive orchard in Texas, a frantoio (olive mill), tasting room and gift shop. Each Fall, we harvest approximately 15 different varieties of trees and open our olive mill for the public to view the pressing.

In 1996 Jack Dougherty, who grew up in the orchards of Santa Clara valley and later had a career working as an executive in the computer industry, purchased a dilapidated ranch with the intention of making it a working ranch. Today it has become an agricultural destination spot. Jack realized that Texas soil and weather are akin to the Mediterranean, and he could not resist a stab at growing olives. The olive trees and berry bushes on Bella Vista Ranch were planted in 1998. Our retail store opened on the ranch in the year 2000, and we opened our "frantoio" (olive pressing facility) in year 2001.
