Velasco et al have sequenced much of the genome of the pinot noir grape. Comparison with the related poplar and mustard genome has led to some insight into pathogen resistance and volatiles important for wine making. This is encouraging for similar efforts to determine the genetic source of oil flavor and pest resistance in the olive.
