Longtime descendants of Italy, our family hails from the country's Puglia Region. The heel of Italy’s “boot,” Puglia is known for its picturesque seascapes, coastal towns and—of course—lush olive groves.
In 1999, Italy and member countries of the European Union were en route to adopting the Euro as their official currency. Knowing the financial impact that a change in currency would have, we sought out an investment that would allow us to capitalize on the appreciation. Since land value seldom depreciates, our family invested in string of untreated olive groves located in the province of Lecce.
What began as a strategic financial venture quickly evolved into a labor of love. After the farmland was purchased, the olive trees continued to grow chemical-free while we enjoyed countless family holidays on the homestead. For more than 30 years, the olive groves—or “masserias”—have grown free of fertilizers and pesticides.
After enjoying the four masserias—Virgili, Ghietta, Galiardi, and Specchia—in their natural state for many years, we agreed that it was time to harvest the olives and begin bottling the oil to share with our friends and family.
The four masserias all have a different variety of olive trees paired with unique soil compositions and varying elevations—creating a distinct oil flavor for each grove. Approximately half of the olive trees are over 750 years old—creating an unparalleled taste that is truly unique to the Puglia region. |
