The "San Sebastiano" is a farm located in Strongoli in the province of Crotone, Calabria. Surrounded by the greenery and peace of its olive trees, it is situated at the foot of the hill on which the ancient Petelia stood, as the name of the fund says: "Pie’ della Scala", "at the foot of the climb”. The company has a long past, belonged first to princes Pignatelli (1767) and then to the barons Giunti (1810), it was purchased in the early twentieth century by Romano Brothers, who kept intact the original architectural heritage (houses, masonry, wells, tanks, troughs; the company has also an ancient mill, still working, which was powered by oxen), and enhanced the production aspect. In fact, from the 30s onwards, it became a point of reference for the whole territory for the trade of various agricultural products such as wine, oil and wheat. Today at the helm is Dr. Piero Romano, who represents the third generation of the family. Since the 90s in conducting the company the guidelines and rules of organic farming are followed carefully. Currently the company is subject to inspection and certification by the CB "Soil and Health ". The guidelines for organic farming, new farming systems and new technologies will be integrated into the local agricultural tradition and allow us to obtain a very high quality product, adapted to modern market demands, without abandoning the old and authentic flavors of our land. |
